John Deere Snow Blower Wear Bar and Shoe Identification guide

Quick Guide to Blower Identification. Here are some tips to help confirm which blower you have. Below are the two most common models, the Quick Hitch Blower and the HEAVY DUTY BLOWER.

  • The labels on the blower are important to help narrow it down. Most say either “Quick Hitch” or “Heavy Duty” on the label on the back side of the blower or on the top panel.

  • The color doesn’t identify the blower well enough as both models have been made in both yellow and green.

  • The Heavy-Duty Blowers have nuts inside holding the wear bar, as shown in the photos. This is a sign that the blower is a Heavy-Duty model.

  • The HD blower also has the wear bar mounted on an angle in the housing to the ground, see pictures below.

  • The standard duty blowers have carriage head bolts holding the wear bar inside the housing. The wear bar on the standard duty is mounted flat to the ground.

  • The blower shoes alone aren’t an indicator of which blower you have as blowers have regular shoe and oversized options at the time of ordering.

  • Get a picture of the bar code model tag on the neck of the blower and forward it, and we can confirm the correct wear parts for your blower.

  • I am completing a matrix that lists the blowers, their model numbers, and which of our parts will fit them.

Front Mounted John Deere Snowblowers

John Deere has produced a number of front mounted snow blowers for the lawn and garden tractors, Sub Compact and Compact tractors. Since many of these units fit across many tractor models, we will focus on helping identify the blowers based upon their design and features.

Our focus is on those blowers which we see most often. If after reviewing this information you have questions, please use our “Contact Us” form and we will do our best, to address your questions and concerns.

  1. The standard duty 2 stage blower has been produced in the 47” wide and 54” wide models. Most were yellow through 2022/2023 and now the standard duty blowers are green from Deere.

  2. Only the Heavy Duty Model blowers are mounted with the front 3 point hitch, as the standard duty blowers are all Quick Hitch Mounting methods. Please note, Heavy Duty blowers also use the front Quick Tach option, except the 60” HD blower, which uses the front 3 point hitch due to the blowers weight and use on 2032R, 2038R and 3 series machines.

  3. If you have a 60” blower, it’s a Heavy Duty model blower.

  4. The “rounded blowers” which don’t have the square shaped housing, are the Single Stage, 46” blowers. There are a lot of these in use. We also make the replacement parts for these blowers as well.

54” Deere 2 Stage Snowblower

The 54” Quick Hitch snowblower has the wear bar mounted flat underneath the unit. The front edge of the wear bar is visible. Also, the head of the carriage bolt is inside of the housing and the nut is underneath the blower within the wear bar.

Common Features of the 54 include

Until 2022/2023, these blowers were made in the yellow color shown. Now they are the Deere Green, but they share most of the same components.

  • The standard mount is the Quick Tach Hitch style as shown.

  • Depending on the blower model, they have shoes on both the inside and outside of the blower housing.

  • When you look inside the blower you see the heads of the carriage bolts holding the wear bar underneath. This is a clear indicator the unit uses the “U” shaped wear bar.

  • The decals on the blower prominently say “Quick Hitch Blower”.

  • The blower contains a bar coded serial number or machine number tag on the portion of the blower which connects to the tractor’s hitch. This information helps to specifically Identify the blowers model for correct parts selection.

Heavy Duty John Deere Blowers

The 47” and 54” Heavy-Duty blowers can be connected to the tractor using a front Quick Tach Hitch. The 60” Heavy-Duty blower typically uses a front 3-point hitch to connect to the tractor.

Starting in 2022/2023, the 47” and 54” Heavy-Duty blowers could be connected to the tractors with the front 3-point hitch. If the blower is connected with a 3-point hitch, it is a heavy-duty blower.

Made in 47”, 54” and 60” sizes, these blowers were produced in the Yellow color for years. Now they are green in color. These are traits which are specific to the Heavy Duty Blowers;

  • They have a “Heavy Duty” decal prominently on the blower.

  • The wear bars are mounted at an angle inside the blower.

  • The blowers wear bar has the nuts visible inside the housing as featured with the white arrows in the picture to the left.

  • The carriage bolts heads are underneath the blower which is unique to the heavy duty models. This tells us the wear bar is flat in design.

  • The blower shoes are usually on the inside of the blower as shown with the red arrows in the picture to the left.

  • The wear bar is flat and has clusters of 3 holes, as shown in the picture. The center hole is the mounting hole where the holes on each side are wear indicator holes.

  • The blower also has a bar coded Serial Number / Machine Number tag on the rear of the blower where it connects to the tractors hitch.
