Rubber Plow Edge kit Selection guide

Here is some important information to consider when selecting a rubber plow edge kit for your plow. Should you select the Standard Duty Kit, Heavy Duty Kit, or Severe Duty Kit? This section will explain the customer for whom each kit is designed, the differences between the kits, and how to select the best kit for your plow.

The main difference between these kits is the customer's needs and planned use of their plow. Please review this section for specific details on the best kit for each customer.

The Standard Duty Kit is our basic kit. It’s a high-quality kit with components that are very consistent with the plow brand's kit offerings from their manufacturer. This is also our entry-level kit, as we have specifically made the components in each kit to provide even better results and provide extended wear duration and functional use. We aim to constantly improve the products so they perform better and last longer.

Intended Customer Base for Standard Duty Kits

Standard-duty kits are designed for the homeowner who clears their driveway of snow and maybe another neighbor's drive as well. These kits are robust enough to be used frequently, but those who have greater needs should consider our Heavy-Duty or our Extreme-duty kits.

Heavy Duty Kits are kits built for more frequent use and extended use. Our Heavy Duty Kits are made with products intended to be used for longer duration, more frequently, or both. These kits usually have heavier-duty materials, such as thicker and taller wear surfaces and materials that can endure longer use periods that occur more often.

Intended Customer Base for Heavy-Duty Kits

Homeowners with large snow-clearing needs, such as long driveways or extensive pavement surfaces, should consider these heavy-duty kits. They are also intended for Commercial Users who rely on them to make a living.

Our heavy-duty kits are purpose-built to last longer, endure frequent use, and permit service and adjustments to be made easier to extend the product's useful life.

Extreme Duty Kits are our Premium Kits which are constructed to be as durable and useful in their tasks as possible. These kits are constructed using the very best products and materials available to meet their intended use and needs. These materials are also selected and used knowing they will often be exposed to the harshest conditions in the environment where they are used. For example, our Extreme Duty Kits are expected to be exposed to very heavy use in very challenging conditions and continue to perform and excel and complete the tasks for which they are built.

Extreme Duty Kits intended customer base

Our extreme-duty kits are for those who insist upon and/or require the very best. Commercial users with high-volume needs will find these kits reliable. These are also selected by homeowners and professionals who insist upon the very best components in their kits and who like to be prepared for all demands that their equipment may have to face. Bottom line: The Extreme-Duty Kits are for those who like and insist upon having the very best.

Those who work in snow clearing environments where extensive snow melt products are used should select these kits as they are purpose built to handle the most challenging conditions. These kits will use the heaviest duty materials such as multi layer snow clearing edges, designed just for their specific needs. The kits also will use the most robust mounting straps and mounts and also use Stainless Steel hardware, which is Marine Grade and the most corrosion resistant hardware available. These are all the best materials available and as a result our Extreme Duty Kits are also going to be our highest priced kits.

When you order an Extreme Duty Kit, we often will have questions for the customer about how they will be using our kit, as we custom build many of these kits to meet specific needs. For example, if someone needs to clear pavement which is well worn or “seasoned” and has been extensively repaired to keep it safe for use, we are likely to suggest a very specific combination of edge products to be used together to achieve the best clearing results while also avoiding damage to the pavement. When our customers purchase an Extreme Duty Kit, we very likely will ask detailed questions about their equipment and how its used. We can fine tune these kits for optimal results to meet our customers needs.

Thank you for your interest in our products. We care about our customers and want to provide the very best solutions to meet their needs. We can best help our customers by asking specific questions and even requesting photos of their equipment and or work environments. And of course, we welcome questions from our clients to make sure they are purchasing the best solutions for their needs.

MEASURING YOUR PLOW FOR A PERFECT FIT

Why do we ask our customers to measure their plows when the plow is already listed on our website?

Some plows have been found to have varying dimensions, although they have the same or very similar model descriptions. This can be because the supplier of the plow changed or due to product updates or the use of certain accessories or features.

We ask our customers to measure their plows to ensure the kit fits their plow perfectly when they receive it and to ensure we avoid the costs and delays of products that have used various measurements in the past.

We make measuring very easy, and this section outlines the steps to obtain the specific measurements we need to produce the best product for our customers.

We always measure all plows by standing in front of them, facing them, and with the plow ideally raised to a comfortable working height. If possible, we encourage our customers to take photos of each measurement so they can forward these to us. Due to the size of some plows, it's often helpful to have assistance when doing this.

Be careful to ensure the plow is properly supported. They are very heavy, and we always want to be safe when working on them. Once the plow is in a safe working position, here is the specific measuring process.

Measuring step 1. Plow Moldboard total width

Starting on YOUR LEFT, when facing the plow, please first measure the total width of the plow moldboard using a tape measure. Please make sure to get from the left edge to the right edge of the entire moldboard.

Some brands build their plows to match their descriptions, where the 60-inch plow is actually 60” wide. Others do not. Many plows are always narrower than their descriptions. We find these variables every day, which is why we encourage these measurements.

Please note the actual width of the moldboard at the top of the current steel cutting edge on your plow. This is the "Total Plow Width;" please note the number.

Measuring step 2. Plow edge mounting bolt locations
Starting on the left end of the plow, please note the incremental numbers to center of each plow mounting bolt on the current steel edge. We prefer these numbers be listed in their actual measurement such as (for an example) 6", 18", 30", 42", 54", 66" etc. Please make sure to write these down and include any fractional measurement to the CENTER of each bolt head on the plows steel wear edge.

Measuring Step 3. The bottom of the current wear edge to the bottom of the plow moldboard

Please measure the distance from the bottom of the plow's current steel moldboard to the bottom of the plow’s current wear edge. We understand there is likely wear on your wear edge, but that's fine. Please measure under the first bolt on the left as you face the plow, a center bolt and also the far right mounting bolt as you face the plow. We need to make sure to build your strap to secure the rubber edges the ideal size and this is important in helping us do so, along with the next measurement as well.  Please write down the results on your measurement in these 3 locations. Don't be surprised to find them slightly different.

Measurement Step 4. The Center of the plow edge bolt to the actual edge of the plow moldboard (not the plow edge on the plow).

Please measure the distance from the center of the plow mounting bolts on the BACK SIDE of the plow, to the bottom of the plow's steel moldboard. Please measure this on the left bolt, the center bolt or one near the plow's center and the far right plow edge bolt. This dimension is likely to be 1" or 7/8" or some other small distance. Please note the measurement on these 3 bolt locations.

With these 4 key measurements, we can make the plow kit to perfectly fit your plow. We want to make sure that when you get our kit, it is easily installed, fits perfectly, and is ready to clear snow.

We appreciate your help confirming these distances. Our goal is a 100% perfect shipping rate, where every plow edge we have built and shipped fits our customers' plow.
