The 60” and 72” CTA Snow Pusher with the Back Drag arm is an exceptional snow clearing implement for these SCUTS and CUTS. As the CTA snow pusher ships from CTA, it already is an outstanding snow clearing implement. I know first hand as I have tried numerous snow implements over the years, and the CTA snow pusher is my snow clearing implement of choice.

I have used this snow pusher for the last three seasons and have cleared over 3,500 residential driveways. During this time, I discovered enhancements for this snow pusher, which enhance its “excellence”. After trying a number of options, we created a purpose built kit which address this improvement, which I feel this implement needs. This kit is.

  • the Back Drag Arm extension

  • Please see our Footnote About Images in our listings at the bottom of the page. (1).

Our Back Drag Arm Extension Kit

  • Is the full width the back drag arm and Improves the CTA Back Drag Arms snow load capacity by 3 to 4x its current snow volume

  • Mounts easily to the CTA Back Drag Arm

  • Is flexible to accommodate different snow conditions and to make the extension longer lasting and more durable.

  • Eliminates the repeating of the back drag clearing operation required to achieve properly cleaned pavement.

  • Maintain sight lines for the CTA Snow Pusher operator, so they can see precisely where they are placing the leading edge of the back drag arm when lowered.

  • Does Not complicate the adjustment or replacement of the main edge rubber or the back drag arm rubber edges.

  • Makes the back drag arm enhancement easy to install

How to use our Back Drag Arm Extension

The back drag arm extension is bolted to the back side of the Back Drag Arm, towards the center of the pusher. The hardware which holds the back drag rubber in the back drag arm also secures the back drag arm extension when its installed.

When the Extension is added, when the back drag arm is lowered to clear the pavement, the extension makes the back drag arm rubber edge much higher than the back drag arm is without the extension. This increased height holds the snow behind the extension, within the pusher and makes the snow clearing process easier, since the snow is cleared with a single back drag action.

The Extension is installed and left on the pusher back drag arm permanently. The extension remains on the arm when the actual back drag rubber is adjusted. Since the extension is ABOVE the back drag arm, adjustments of the back drag arm main rubber edge, which clears the pavement, do not negatively impact the extension.

When the back drag arm rubber is flipped over or replaced, the extension is removed and then reinstalled when the new rubber is installed. The extension mounts behind the back drag arm bolts, so its is securely held at all times. See our product photos (pending) for more details and information.

Back Drag Arm Extension

The back drag arm has one shortcoming which our kit addresses. The height of the back drag arm being just slightly more than the 6” tall rubber edge contained in the arm, when pulling snow back, the snow quickly accumulates taller than the back drag arm. This allows the snow to fall over the arm and back to the cleaned pavement.

This requires the operator to repeat the back dragging function, often multiple times. Each repeat of the snow clearing with the back drag means driving over the snow, packing it down. The preferred option is to clear the back drag snow with one pass, which our extension allows you to do for most snow clearing.

Snow which is deeper than 12” may require another clean up pass depending upon the distance the snow is back drug. The deeper the snow being cleared, the more snow falls back over the arm, leading to the back drag function being required 2, 3 4 or even more times, to properly clean the pavement.

Why the Snow Back Dragging Function needs to be done correctly the first time.

  • This area is difficult to clear with most snow implements due to the garage doors and tight working conditions.

  • Snow has to be cleared correctly with the right implement otherwise the alternative is hand shoveling and clearing.

  • Hand shoveling 2 or 3 doors is one thing. Doing this for dozens of overhead doors becomes a monumental project. Especially for every snowfall.

  • Snow not cleared at the overhead doors quickly becomes hard pack and ice. These conditions make foot traffic as well as vehicle traffic more dangerous.

  • Since snow has to be pulled back from most doors, that means driving over snow before its cleared. You always want to minimize that.

  • On my snow clearing route, having to repeat the back drag process added nearly 25% more time to the entire route. That makes the improving the back drag arm a matter of saving time and money.
