CTA makes a great plow, but it needs a custom-made rubber edge to protect the pavement and prevent abrasion damage when clearing the pavement with the plow. We have just the answer.
For CTA Quick Hitch and Standard FEL Plows.
Please see other listings for the A Frame plow or the Heavy Duty FEL Plows.
We offer a range of rubber plow edges for this plow, which are listed below. These options include
Standard Rubber Plow Edge, Kit- This uses our single-layer rubber plow edge, which is 6” tall by ¾” thick
Heavy Duty Rubber Plow Edge, Kit – This uses our Double Layer rubber plow edge, each edge being 6” tall and ½” thick, providing a total of 1” of rubber on the pavement clearing snow.
Extreme Duty Rubber Plow Edge, Kit- Uses Two layers of our plow edge rubber. The base rubber edge is 6” tall and ¾” thick. This edge is joined by our 6” tall and ½” thick rubber edge for a total of 1.25” of rubber edge clearing the pavement.
Please refer to our Plow Kit Details page for a detailed description of these products, as well as the specific customer profiles for whom these products are designed and produced.
We custom-cut all of our plow edges and mounting straps on computer-controlled laser or water-jet cutting machines to produce a superior product that will take your CTA plow to the next level.
We make it simple when you order from us. You can buy just what you want.
Are you ready to replace the rubber edge on your CTA plow or do you want to change from the UHMW wear edge, to one of our rubber plow edge kits? Then order the “Rubber Only”, in the package you want.
You can purchase the rubber edges in the
Standard Rubber Edge- (1) 6” tall x 3/4” thick
Heavy Duty Rubber Edge- (2) 6” tall x 1/2” thick (1” total)
Extreme Duty Rubber Edge - (1) 6” x 3/4” thick and (1) 6 × 1/2” thick rubber (1.25” of rubber edge in total)
Any of these Edge orders will include a full hardware set to mount them on your plow.
The plow mounting strap is NOT included in your shipment.
When you order from our company, we want you to get exactly what you need and want, and we don’t want you to have to buy unwanted kits or packages if they include items you don’t want or need to purchase.
Purchase our Standard Rubber Plow Edge Kit, our Heavy Duty Rubber Plow Edge Kitor our Extreme Duty Rubber Plow Edge Kit, you will receive the rubber edge material described in the listing, as well as our UHMW strap to mount the plow edge and our full set of hardware.
How we make our Plow Rubber Edge
Our Plow edge material is machined with Vertical adjustment slots
to provide a wear edge that is double-sided
make the initial installation much easier and faster.
Allows for full adjustment in either vertical installation.
Provides for limited horizontal adjustment as well.
Keeps the plow rubber square on the plow for proper wear
When the first wear edge wears, you can adjust the wear edge to maintain the perfect amount of rubber below the plow moldboard.
Plow Edge Adjustments during use.
Monitor the plow edge wear by periodically checking the rubber edge beneath the plow blade. When you notice wear you can
adjust the rubber edge to ensure proper function
We suggest 1.5” to 2” of material below the plow.
Loosen the bolts and slide the rubber edges down the plow face
Confirm the rubber distance is correct and the edge square with a basic tape measure.
Periodically clean the plow to remove snow melt, etc.,
When the first edge is worn down to where less than 3/4” of an inch of rubber is beneath the plow and you have exhausted your vertical adjustment. Time to flip the rubber edges over.
.Plow Edge Strap
Custom-machined UHMW Plow Edge Mounting Strap for maximum Rubber Plow edge support.
can’t rust, won’t bend, and won’t be easily damaged.
never needs to be painted or powder coated; the straps are a solid black color.
The UHMW Strap will be about 8” to 10” shorter than the actual plow width, the protect the ends of the strap
Our straps are shorter than the plow width, providing protection for the plow edge and strap when the plow is angled during use.
This set back distance allows the ends of the plow rubber to flex and absorb impacts during use while not directly impacting the straps
Our straps are made in sections to make the handling, installation, and shipping of these straps simpler and less costly
While still providing near effortless adjustment of the plow edge at installation and periodically during its use.
Hardware Set Includes
Complete Set of corrosion-resistant coated hardware, including (5)-1/2” Carriage bolts with flat washers and Nylock Nuts. Some sets may use Cap Screws instead of carriage bolts depending upon the plows selected edges or kit.
A special note about working with Corrosion Resistant Coated Hardware.
It's important to lubricate the hardware with silicone spray or other suitable hardware lubricant. The lubricant protects the hardware threads against galling or heat from the surface friction when tightening the hardware. Lubricating the hardware is also important for proper torquing, ensuring adequate clamping and holding strength.
We discourage using Impact Tools on the plow edge hardware
It’s important to avoid using impact tools for the hardware installation or removal for the plow edge. The operational speed of the impact can cause heat in the hardware threads. This heat can cause the corrosion-coated finish on the hardware to gall or “cold weld.” This must be avoided to ensure the hardware remains fully functional and can be reused as needed for plow edge adjustments, etc.
The impact tools “pound” on the hardware as they tighten and loosen the bolts. This pounding builds heat in the hardware. It also can damage the square holes in the UHMW strap, This impact tool's “pounding” rounds the square shoulders on the mounting holes in the straps, reducing their proper holding and clamping strength. We suggest using hand tools to install the hardware to avoid these complications and problems.
Please follow the specific hardware torque specifications listed in the detailed installation instructions included with the Edge or Kit for optimal long-term results.
Installation of your new Plow Edge and or Kit
Each edge or kit is shipped with detailed installation instructions.
Total installation time will vary based upon each individual's mechanical experience, the work environment, and the tools used. Typical edge kit installation is within 20 to 30 minutes or less in most cases.
Subsequent maintenance during plow use involves monitoring the amount of rubber edge extending beneath the plow moldboard, checking to ensure the edge remains properly aligned during use and keeping the hardware secured. Cleaning the plow and edge periodically to remove snow melt products and any dirt is also suggested.
The typical wear duration for our plow edges is significantly longer than most people expect. We have uses these same products and found our standard duty edges last for 300 to 400 driveway plows is very common. Our more robust edges provide even longer wear life.
Proper plow edge-down pressure plays a vital role in the plow's function and wear life. Avoid excessive down pressure on the plow edge, as it wears the edge more rapidly than necessary and negatively impacts the tractor's steering and control.
Store the plow between use seasons with the rubber edge bearing no plow weight. Do so by supporting the plows weight with its plow shoes, jack stands, etc. Keeping weight off the rubber edge long term when stored will extend its useful wear life and function.
We appreciate your interest in our products and encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns. We are here to help.
