Our Frontier Plow Top Flap kits transform the plows function and operation. Our plow top flap kits are made of premium rubber, which is the same high grade rubber as our plow rubber edges. Since we offer a range of rubber plow edge kits for the Frontier AF10F plow, we also developed some choices of plow top flap sizes, for our customers to select the product which best meets their needs.
We offer the following Plow Top Flap Options for the Frontier AF10F plow.
Plow Top Flap Option 1. The Plow Top Flap is 6” wide (deep, front to back) for the 60” plow and its made with rubber material which is 1/2” thick. The plow top flap remains rectangular shaped. The plow flap is the same width of the plow at its front and on it’s rear side, where it mounts on the plow.
Plow Top Flap Option 2. The Plow Top Flap is 8” wide (deep, front to back) and its 3/16” thick. We do not use the “reinforced rubber” for our plow top flaps, as I don’t care for the look of the reinforcement strings throughout the plow rubber. The strings make the rubber material look like its shedding. Option 2 remains the rectangular shape and it is 60” wide at the front and rear of the flap.
To Order your Frontier AF10F Plow Top Flap, follow these steps
Select the size of the top flap rubber you prefer on the website.
Add your selection to the cart and complete the buyers information. It’s that simple and soon, your plow top flap will be on its way to you.
Make sure to check our the wide range of upgrades which we offer for the Frontier AF10F plow. We have designed and now produce the following
(3) Different levels of Rubber Plow Edges and Kits
(2) Different Rubber Top Flap Kits
(3) Different UHMW Composite Plow Edges and Kits
Check our other Frontier AF10F Listings for these products and details. Also, we make custom request products for clients every week.
This plow top flap bolts to the top flange on the Frontier AF10F plow which already has the mounting holes in it.
Our plow top flap straps are professionally machined from 1/2” thick UHMW which is a perfect material to use for securing these plow edges and top flaps.
The UHMW Top Flap Strap is cut to the same width as the plow top flap flange.
All holes are machined for carriage bolts in the UHMW strap, to allow the UHMW strap square hold shank to hold the top flaps hardware.
We include in the kit the Professionally Machined Rubber top flap of your choice, the UHMW top flap strap and the hardware to install the plow top flap on the plow.
These components are included in a box with the rubber top flap, the mounting straps and the hardware, along with installation and use instructions.
Which top flap size and thickness is best for which type of snow conditions?
Thicker Flap which is shorter, better for wet and heavy snow. This flap’s strength is being able to roll heavier snow forward.
The Plow Top Flap which is 6” wide and 1/2” thick is designed for snow which tends to be heavier and more moisture laden. This snow is heavier than most other snow and its also tends to fall either earlier in the season or towards the end of the season, when the temperatures are warmer. The thickness of the top flap help to roll this snow forward and the flaps thickness is a plus for handling these snow conditions.
Thinner top flap which is longer, is best suited for higher snow volumes and snow which is less wet and dense and more likely to drift and blow.
The Plow To Flap which is 8” wide and 3/16” thick is designed for snow which is lighter and tends to be deeper. The top flaps additional length will help to roll the snow forward where its greater volume and lighter snow weight will work ideally with the top flaps more flexible material.
Top Flap Kit Components.
We use corrosion resistant coated premium hardware to properly hold the top flap. That includes the carriage bolts to sit firmly in the square cut holes in the top flap strap and then flat washers and Nylock nuts to secure the top flaps
Our top flap mounting strap is precision machined of UHMW for the clean and professional looking installation.
The UHMW never needs to be painted, powder coated or otherwise colored. This makes the entire top flap virtually no maintenance and gives the plow a very streamlined appearance.
This flap is Large enough to properly deflect the snow and not too large, so it looks proper on the plow.
Benefits of using a plow top flap include the following;
Improves operator visibility by helping keep the snow from flying over the blade.
Keeps the snow from pushing over the top of the plow and landing on the hitch where it can cause ice to form.
Reduces the need for 2nd passes and extra clean up passes to deal with snow which will come over the blade when a top flap isn’t used.
Improves the plow’s function of forward rolling snow when the blade is straight or throwing the snow off the end of the blade when angled.
When the blade is fully angled and the plowing speed is high enough, the flap often throws the snow over the snowbank along the road or pavement, instead of just pushing the snow off the end of the blade and having it fall back into the road as you pass by.
A plow top flap is often one of those additions which once you have used one, you don’t want to be without one. I have plowed extensively with and without the top flap and using the top flap allows me to finish faster than without a top flap.
Installation is very simple. Please follow these steps.
Unpack the box and confirm there is rubber Top Flap Material in the box. Remove the plastic shrink wrap from rubber and lay the rubber on a flat surface to “relax”.
Make sure the top flap hardware is included. It should include 5/16” carriage bolts, flat washers and Lock nuts.
On these hardware kits with smaller hardware, we include an extra bolt, washer and nut in the package just in case one is dropped during the installation.
The Strap is shipped in 2 sections, to make the shipping and installation easier. When it is in two pieces, the center of the strap will have “X”’s on the ends which should meet in the middle. You can flip the strap over to put the “x”s on the underside of the top flap mounting strap.
Align the rubber to match the hole locations with those on the plow top flap flange. Put the rubber on the plow top flange and place the UHMW strap over the top of the rubber. The carriage bolts square shank should be held by the UHMW strap square cut holes.
Place One bolt in a hole near the center of the flap to help hold the rubber and UHMW strap in place. FINGER TIGHTEN THE HARDWARE until all bolts are installed. Make sure to put the flat washer on the underside of the bolt before starting the nut.
If you have a 1/2” nut driver, which is the tool like a screw driver with the socket on it, they are very handy for starting this small hardware as the nut driver prevents the nuts from being dropped.
Once you have all of the bolts through the top flap strap, the rubber and then the flange on the top flap, position the plow strap and flap so everything is properly aligned and squared. Once you have everything aligned properly, you should spray the bolts with a small squirt of silicone to lubricate the hardware.
If you lubricate the hardware before installing it, its very hard to hang onto and wastes time dropping and picking up hardware, etc.
Tighten the nuts while making sure the head of the carriage bolt is pushed down into the top flap strap. Its something easily done by hand. That’s it, your done……..Enjoy your top flap. Check the lock nuts once in awhile but they should remain tight and keep the flap aligned.
Please do not over tighten the top flap hardware.
Please Make sure to avoid over tightening the hardware which holds the top flap. We suggest the use of basic hand tools to keep the hardware tightness in moderation. When impact tools are used to install top flap hardware, the bolts tend to be tightened much more than needed. Not only does the excess torque on the top flap hardware tend to distort the top flap mounting strap, it can damage the UHMW top flap strap.
Since these bolts only require 15 to 17 ft pounds of torque, using any battery or pneumatic tools can quickly over tighten these.
Thank you for your Interest in our products. We sincerely appreciate it.
