Expect this UHMW plow edge to outlast the mild steel plow edge which came on the plow, because the UHMW is very low friction and doesn’t have the abrasive pressures on the pavement.
The UHMW we use is also very high quality and has proven to have excellent wear characteristics.
My estimates given are based upon wear measurements taken during my operation of my tractor and plow. The numbers posted are 70% of my my actual wear results, so they are very low estimates.
As long as the plow operator uses proper down pressure and follows the installation and use instructions, the wear result is well beyond these numbers. Bottom line, they last a LONG TIME when used properly…..
Assuming the average driveway is paved, 200’ long and 14’ wide with a total pavement area of 3,200 sq ft, these are the wear estimates.

Q. 1.- How long does it take to install these plow upgrade kits?
A. 2.- Depending upon each persons mechanical skills, tools and work area, most of these kits are installed entirely in 45 to 60 minutes, including removing the old steel plow edge, etc.
Q. 2.- What tools are needed to remove the old plow edge and install the new edge and top flap kits?
A. 2. - Metric hand tools to remove the old plow edge and SAE sockets and wrenches to install the new plow edge and top flap. Hand Held Nut drivers for the top flap hardware are helpful and deep well sockets for the plow edge hardware.
Q. 3.- Any special advice or suggestions for installing these items?
A. 3.- Yes, the steel plow edge is heavy, often 35 to 60 pounds, so be prepared. Don’t drop it on your feet, etc. Make sure to put the old metric bolts in the steel plow edge you remove as the hardware won’t work on your new rubber plow edges and top flap. Wear gloves when handling the plow steel wear edge as often its sharp from grinding on the pavement.
Q. 4.- What special “tips” and tricks make the installation go easier with better results?
A. 4.- Clean the plow moldboard face once the steel plow edge is removed. Consider applying a paste wax or paint sealer to make the surface slicker for snow to slide off easier. Follow the installation and use instructions and you will be very pleased with the results.
Q. 5.- What mistakes do people make in this process?
A.5.- They over tighten the hardware when installing the new edge. Avoid using an Impact wrench as they can damage the hardware coating with their speed.

*How long should the UHMW Plow edge Last? Here are some guidlines from my 30+ years of snow clearing with these Garden tractors, SCUTs and CUTs.
Expect this UHMW plow edge to outlast the mild steel plow edge which came on the plow, because the UHMW is very low friction and doesn’t have the abrasive pressures on the pavement.
The UHMW we use is also very high quality and has proven to have excellent wear characteristics.
My estimates given are based upon wear measurements taken during my operation of my tractor and plow. The numbers posted are 70% of my my actual wear results, so they are very low estimates.
As long as the plow operator uses proper down pressure and follows the installation and use instructions, the wear result is well beyond these numbers. Bottom line, they last a LONG TIME when used properly…..
Assuming the average driveway is paved, 200’ long and 14’ wide with a total pavement area of 3,200 sq ft, these are the wear estimates.
Residential UHMW Plow edge on the Frontier AF10F plow to last 8 years or 100 drives per year or a total of 800 driveway clearings is reasonable.
The Commercial UHMW Plow edge on the Frontier AF10F plow should provide 8 to 10 years of clearing a total of 120 to 200 drives per year or a total of 1,150 to 2,000 residential driveways is not unreasonable.
These edge are also double sided, so when one side wears, unbolt the plow edge, flip it over and start using the 2nd side. This is why the life expectancy of these edges is as long as it is. estimates assume using both sides of the UHMW wear bars.
Please understand these are only estimates, there are no guarantees as to the number of drive they can plow.
Abuse and misuse will shorten the products life, as will improper use and not following the installation instructions of these edges.
However, if any SBS, LLC customer is not satisfied with the wear of their UHMW edge is experiencing, I want to hear from them. Use properly and wisely, and they will last many operators a long, long time……Carry the front wheels of the tractor in the air while clearing snow and the edges will have a much shorter wear life.
