This is a special blower wear bar for the Deere Heavy Duty Deere Blowers. This wear bar is specifically designed for the blower operator who is

• striking the raised pavement edges often with the blower

• working on surfaces which are uneven and causing impact with the blower wear bar,

• which have pavement edges which are raised due to frost heaving or from pavement which is settled,

• clearing snow from a surface which isn’t smooth.

What is the long term impact of banging the blowers wear bar into the pavement edges or expansion joints with these harsh encounters?

These impacts, which can even stop the tractors movement, are very violent and will crack the blower housing, break the wear bar mounts and bolts and it also stresses the blowers mounting hitch, etc. If the impact stops the tractors momentum, this is a very dangerous situation.

We were recently contacted by a school district where their snow clearing operators were banging their blower wear edge into the pavement edges. They had one impact which ended up shearing off all of the wear edge bolts and the entire wear edge broke off the blower and was laying on the pavement. Impacts like these can not only destroy a blower, it can injure the operator and damage the tractor. Plus it can damage the pavement requiring expensive repairs.

Just as any impact which shudders the machine, these each take their toll on the equipment. It’s best to do what you can to minimize these shocking edge impacts, etc.

We encourage anyone who is having issues with these edge impacts to make two changes to their blower to help prevent damage and injury.

1. Switch to one of our SBS, LLC, Impact Resistant or Rubber Wear Bars to greatly reduce the “shock” to the machine and operator.

2. Replace the blowers steel shoes with our SBS, Oversize UHMW Shoes.

These longer UHMW Blower Shoes improve the blowers transition between surfaces by elevating the blowers end panels as the blower is pushed. With the longer UHMW shoes and replacing the steel wear bar with our Impact resistant or Rubber Wear bars, the “shock” factor of these impacts is reduced sharply, often to where the blowers transition over these same surfaces happens without any edge impact occurring.

The longer UHMW Blower shoes provide better blower stability front to rear as well as improved blower balance, side to side. To transform the blower’s ability to handle surface transition, our products lead the way in taking the “SHOCK and BANG” out of snowblower operation, which is a very good thing.

Why does this Impact Resistant HD. Snowblower Wear Bar make the surface transition smoother than the steel wear bar on the snowblower?

It’s a matter of taking away the 1/8” thick or 1/4” thick steel edge on the OEM Wear bar and replacing it with a surface wear bar which is now 1.25” to 1.5” thick. The additional width of the wear bar edge allows the edge to avoid “catching” the raised pavement edge and it allows the wear bar to ride over the raised edge more easily.

Also, the leading edge of our Impact resistant wear bar is rubber material, which will flex and even “bounce” over the sharp pavement edge. It works the very same way this rubber material does when on a plow edge, it absorbs the impact and distributes it through the entire wear bar, instead of just the edge. Don’t forget, using these SBS blower edges with the larger SBS UHMW blower shoes also changes the blowers approach angle on the pavement. These two products enhance the function of each other when used together.

Leading edge is rubber, second half is UHMW

There isn’t another snowblower wear bar on the market like ours. Our Impact resistant wear bar is a combination of rubber and UHMW which is mounted on the blower so when the blower is being pushed on the surface, the leading edge of the wear bar is the rubber material we use for our plow edges. The back half of the wear bar is our UHMW material, machined for perfect fit and to help support the blower properly, while also clearing the pavement.

Our Impact resistant wear bar mounts in the same position as the steel wear bar which comes on the blower. The difference is, the steel HD. blower wear bar is 1/4” thick on the edge and about 3” tall. It is bolted to the blower mounting flange with carriage bolts.

A Special Layered Product Design

The SBS, LLC Impact resistant wear bar is a two layer wear bar, with the leading edge or “front half” of the blower wear bar being a special rubber product which is very good at clearing the pavement surface, but also able to have enough flex to contour to the uneven pavement surfaces and clean them better than the steel edge can. This leading edge, being made of the rubber material, can absorb impacts with much less machine “shock” than the steel wear edge which comes on the blower when new.

The trailing edge of the blower wear bar, or the back half of the impact resistant wear bar, is our UHMW material, also of the same thickness as the leading edge of rubber. This UHMW material is a very low friction, high wear resistant composite material which can support the blower properly and serve as a wear bar and pavement clearing edge. The UHMW is a solid material, yet its a composite product made of complex chemical chains of the material, to have unique benefits.

This wear bar is intended for those who are having issues when using the blower and the blowers wear bar is “banging into” the edges of uneven pavement, previous pavement repairs, crack and pot hole filling and the frost heaved pavement edges and expansion cracks, which when encountered with the steel wear bar, sends a “violent shock” through the system.

UHMW Blower Wear Bar

Our UHMW Wear Bar is a perfect replacement for the mild steel wear bar on both the Quick Hitch and Heavy Duty snowblowers. Our UHMW wear bar ends the pavement surface scratching and gouging caused by the steel edge. The UHMW Edge glides over the pavement and when used with our UHMW blower shoes, ends the pavement surface friction and damage from the steel wear bars and shoes. Our UHMW wear bars even outlast the mild steel wear bars, which is an added plus*.

Impact Resistant Wear Bar

Our Impact Resistant Wear Bar is a composite product made with our UHMW material layered with our long used and highly regarded rubber plow edge material. The front edge of the wear bar is rubber to help absorb the edge impacts where the UHMW back half of the wear bar supports the blower and cleans the surface. This Impact Resistant Wear Bar is ideal for the blower user who shudders when they “Bang” into the pavement edges when pushing the blower. The rubber edge will help absorb the impact and reduce the damage to the blower, the hitch, the tractor and the operator. This is for those who encounter pavement edges and want to reduce the “BANG” and machine shudder which follows these edge impacts.

Rubber Wear Bars

Our Rubber Heavy Duty Blower Wear Edge Products are made entirely of our plow edge rubber. These edges are made in the following sizes, based upon the Heavy Duty Blower Model.

47” H.D. Blower, the rubber wear edge is 1.25” thick and 3” tall

We make these edges to mount in the same location as the wear edges they replace. Each of our edges include the stainless hardware to mount these on the blower. • Walkways and sidewalks have more expansion joints, smaller pavement sections, more expansion joints and the pavement tends to be thinner, subjecting it to more movement and frost heave issues. These unique facts need to be considered when clearing extensive walks and small paved areas in commercial, municipal and medical settings.

Please use care in these situations.

A special reminder about these types of edge impacts with snow clearing implements. These impacts are dangerous. While our special wear edges are designed to help reduce the severity of the impact and protect the operator, we can’t make such impacts “safe”.

Our edges can help to reduce the impact severity if they are used correctly, they help to improve the transition from one surface to the other. But you still need to use your judgement and protect yourself by raising the blower when you encounter these edges, slow down, take steps to prevent damage to your equipment or injury to yourself.. We can’t eliminate the risk or danger of this activity. You need to use your judgement to protect yourself and your equipment.

Our products help to reduce the “shock” from these edges, but only YOU can control the machine speed, direction and other factors related to these dangerous situations. Slow down, raise the blowers edge slightly and if necessary, make repairs to the pavement to help remedy these situations. Please be careful. I know first hand as I have been injured from these types of impacts, which led me to develop these edge products.

• *It’s important to avoid excessive down force on all snow clearing implements. Excessive down force doesn’t improve the snow clearing function, it just wears out the implements and their wear edges prematurely and also causes the tractor control to suffer as well….
