A few things about Stainless 316 Hardware which I want my customers to know when deciding if its right for them.
This hardware is expensive to purchase. Compared to standard hardware, Stainless 316 is priced considerably higher. But its also going to look like new and be able to be removed whether its a month, a year or many years after installation.
This hardware MUST be lubricated when installed and removed to prevent galling or “cold welding” of the hardware. Simply spray the hardware with silicone of other good hardware lubricants before installing or removing.
Stainless 316 is extremely hard and can be very difficult to remove if you need to cut the bolts off your plow or snow blower. As long as you follow the instructions and avoid using impact tools to install or remove this hardware, you should be fine. Impact tools can cause the hardware to build heat and result in the galling. Just install the hardware using lubricants and don’t buzz the nuts on and off, and the hardware shouldn’t give you any problems and will prove to be a great choice for your long term snow implement edge mounting needs.
